March 3, 2009 Albuquerque, New Mexico – A locally-made short film, “Super Atomic Commies”, will screen at Filmapalooza at the Miami International Film Festival on the weekend of March 13, after winning the Audience Award of the National 48 Hour Film Challenge 2008. The film was made in Albuquerque in only 48 hours by Team Ultimatum. After beating out 200 other submissions, “Super Atomic Commies” received the most online votes and claimed the Audience Award for 2008. In Miami, the film will compete against 69 other films from 15 countries for the title of Best Film of the 2008 48 Hour Film Project and a $5,000 cash prize.

Ten members of the cast and crew will attend the festival next week. There they will meet other 48HFP winners from around the world and will attend screenings, workshops and parties.

The film is homage to the B-movies of the 1950’s, about a young couple in love that stumble upon a mysterious goop deep in the woods. When confronted by a scientist and his strange assistant, Mrs. Snafu, the couple unwittingly learns of a devious plot of atomic proportions that has the Commy-stench of world domination written all over it.

The film was directed by J.Anthony Cangialosi, and written by Alex Gianopouls. Starring in the film are Morse Bicknell, Chad Brummett, Courtney Cunningham, and Rebekah Wiggins.
