| Profile: |
Situated on the northern bank of the Jemez River, the Pueblo of Zia blends harmoniously with the surrounding terrain. The pueblo sits atop a small mesa, which provides a spectacular view of the surrounding areas. The Pueblo is located northwest of Albuquerque. The ancient Zia sun symbol was officially adopted by the State of New Mexico and appears on the state flag. The Zia women have long been known as creators of excellent thin walled, well-fired pottery with artistic decorations in red and black on white, and often with a bird motif. |
