The town of Bernalillo founded in 1695 by Don Diego de Vargas, is situated at the foot of the Sandia Mountains and sits on the banks of the Rio Grande. Bernalillo’s main street Camino del Pueblo was part of the El Camino Real, the trade trail from Mexico, and more recently Route 66. Bernalillo is within minutes of seven pueblos and its rich history of farming and winemaking (introduced in the 1620s) continues today.
