| The NM Film Office is now accepting proposals for the New Visions/New Mexico 2010-2011 Contract Awards. NM Filmmakers can apply for up to $20,000 in funding for their original film projects out of a total pool of $100,000. Postmark deadline for applications is October 8, 2010 – no hand-delivered, faxed or e-mailed applications will be accepted. » July: NM Filmmakers Showcase 2010 – Winning Films Tour!
Congratulations to all of our talented local filmmakers honored in this year’s Showcase! The NM Film Office will now travel the six winning films around the state during our July tour. » June: NM Film Financing and Distribution Conference
In June 2010, the NM Film Office conducted a free conference to discuss Film Financing and Distribution with nearly 300 local filmmakers at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. Panelists included reps from the NM Tax & Rev Dept and key NM Film Office personnel who discussed our state’s production incentives, as well as a wide range of guest speakers from around the country who provided insightful presentations about multi-platform distribution, film financing and film investments.

» June: NM Film Industry Tour
The 2nd annual Native American & Hispanic Film Tour took place in June, 2010! The NM Film Office teamed up with the IATSE Local 480 for a series of presentations designed to inform Native American and Hispanic residents about potential careers in the state’s film industry. These free presentations were open to the public in Jicarilla Apache, Taos, Silver City, Mescalero Apache and Valencia County. Professional film crew technicians shared their experiences about how they began in the industry, the lifestyle of working on set, and a representative from the NMFO was available to answer questions about training opportunities and other resources offered by the state. Thank you to all of our host sites around New Mexico and the film crew technicians who joined us in this tour!

In May 2010. The NM Film Office once again hosted the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) in Santa Fe for their 2010 Latino Writers Lab. NM FILMMAKERS PRESS – January, 2010: Sundance Institute selects New Mexican Native Filmmaker’s Project for 2010 Screenwriters Lab – New Visions 2009 winner and New Mexican Native Sydney Freeland’s project, DRUNKTOWN’S FINEST, was selected among the twelve projects chosen this year. In this original script, three Native Americans—a rebellious father-to-be, a devout Christian, and a promiscuous transsexual—find their self-images challenged, and ultimately strengthened, as they come of age on an Indian reservation. NM FILMMAKERS PRESS – January, 2010: Sundance Film Festival to screen New Mexico Native Short Film – New Visions 2007 winner and Navajo filmmaker, Blackhorse Lowe, will screen his latest film, “Shimásání,” a short created through the 2007 New Visions/New Mexico award program, at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival from January 21-31, 2010 in Park City, Utah. NM FILMMAKERS PRESS 9/12/09: New Visions/New Mexico 2007 winners Paul Glickman and Tamarind King, creators of the short film animation "EL SALON MEXICO" received the Sylvia Award for best animated film at the 2009 Rome International Film Festival. NM FILMMAKERS PRESS 2009: New Visions/New Mexico 2006 winner Debra Anderson, who directed and produced the documentary “SPLIT ESTATE”, premiered her film at DocuWeeks 2009 in New York and Los Angeles this summer. It was televised worldwide on Planet Green in October of this year, and will be screened in several film festivals around the nation in the coming months. Congratulations, Deb!
