The New Mexico Filmmakers showcase is an annual celebration of New Mexico’s own filmmakers, a non-juried, non-competitive screening which takes place over four days in Albuquerque each Spring. This past May, the Showcase presented over 80 films. Five Audience Favorite films traveled to Roswell, Santa Fe, Taos and Las Cruces in August and September. The next NM Filmmakers Showcase Call for Entries will be announced in the Spring of 2009. See below for 2008 favorites.

TIME ASSASSINS

A DAY IN HEAVEN

A light-hearted comedic adventure about Rudy Dominguez, a humble man from rural NM. After the death of his beloved wife, he builds a flying machine to see her in heaven. TRT 14 MIN.


SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND
Director Bryant Botero
Albuquerque
A documentary about the lives & experiences of four groups of subway performers, revealing how these artista are perceived by society. TRT 27 MIN.


A RETURN HOME
Director Ramona Emerson
Albuquerque
After 37 years in the city, Navajo artist B. Emerson-Kitsman learns how difficult life can be on the reservation – but, through her art she learns to bridge the gap. TRT 32 MIN.


UNDERWAY
Director Paul Marcus Santa Fe
At a stop-over between worlds, a woman discovers that her past and future are simultaneously in progress. TRT 17 MIN.

In May of 2007, the NM Filmmakers Showcase presented sixty-six films – all made by New Mexicans – at the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque. The Showcase, a non-juried, non-competitive festival of locally-made films, traveled to Farmington, Las Cruces and Santa Fe with six audience favorites in August.
